Energy
-> Energy in general
Al Gore’s home uses more than 20 times the American average
The Tennessee Center for Policy Research (who according to the Times, disputes that climate change is a serious problem) has revealed Al Gores inconveniet truth. In 2006, Gores household in Nashville used nearly 221,000 kWh. Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh, more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year.
As a responce, Gore says that he is purchasing Green power and are buying carbon offsets and that he leads a carbon neutral lifestyle. (see http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1594368,00.html and http://www.economist.com/debate/freeexchange/2007/02/the_oscar_win_for_al.cfm)
Has Al Gores credibility as a climate changer been damaged by his huge energy bill? Or can he justify large consumption by his influence on energy emissions worldwide, which would mean he will get an aggregated negative anyway!? Alternatively are the climate change opponents getting so desperate that they have to attack the messenger?

20 times the average is too much. Energy conservation should be top priority, then comes carbon offsets. I heard he uses a private jet frequently as well.
If his country had been part of an GHG emission trading scheme, we would not have to worry too much who emits more, emissions would be under control and those who emit more would have to pay for it.
