Recycle tetrapacks?

Nicholas Eastop  [2007-03-13  12:34]   #1853
Hello!
Id like to know what your opinions are on the recycling of tetrapack cartons.
I understand that there are two schools of thought on this.
1. Recycling tetrapack cartons saves energy and resources.
2. It is better to use them as fuel in energy production.

I think that the answer to your question depends on what your cartons has been used for. If your tatras have been used to contain something that needs a lot of effort and hot water to clean (yoghurt maybe) in order to be recycled or if they have contained something that only needs a quick rinse to be ready for recycling. If recycling is worthwhile is dependent on the energy and effort used in the preparation for the recycling

Welcome to Ecoprofile Nicholas!

There is a reason "recycling" is not a section at this site. Even if this thread could be an interesting exercise on life cycle assessment, packaging is just not one of our main environmental challenges.
